What Makes a Gold or a Dark Rum?

Ageing, blending, even the specific level of char in the barrel can all affect the colour, depth, complexity and taste of the final rum. BACARDÍ’s Gold and Dark rums have earned extra layers of these from the passage of time and the skill of the Maestros de Ron BACARDÍ, leading to a smooth and versatile rum range that’s as famous for its mixability as its distinctive taste.

your questions answered

What’s the Difference Between BACARDÍ Añejo 4, Carta Oro and Carta Negra?

Every BACARDÍ rum has its own unique process, character and flavour profile. BACARDÍ Carta Negra is a blend of rums that haves pent time in heavily charred barrels that give it rich and deep flavours of oak. BACARDI Carta Oro has perfectly balanced notes of caramel, almond and ripe banana. BACARDÍ Añejo 4, meanwhile, has been aged for at least four years giving it notes of honey, aromatic spices, freshly baked bread and tropical fruit.

Why do BACARDÍ Carta Oro and BACARDÍ Carta Negra have different names in different countries?

When they were first created, each of these rums was originally known by their Spanish name; BACARDÍ Carta Oro (BACARDÍ Gold Label) and BACARDÍ Carta Negra (BACARDÍ Black Label). Since then, some countries have settled on BACARDÍ Gold and BACARDÍ Black.

What Ingredients Are Used to Make BACARDÍ’s Dark and Gold Rum?

BACARDÍ’s dark and gold rums contain purified water, high-quality molasses and our signature strain of yeast, La Levadura BACARDÍ.

Are BACARDÍ’s Gold and Dark Rums Vegan/Vegetarian and Gluten-free?

Yes, they are.

What Can I Mix with BACARDÍ Carta Oro?

BACARDÍ Carta Oro is a versatile rum but it mixes particularly well with cola and ginger beer/ale.It also blends beautifully with pineapple, raspberry, apple and citrus. In cocktails, try it in a Ginger Snap, an Electric Avenue or a Golden Apple.

What Can I Mix with BACARDÍ Carta Negra?

The big and bold flavour of BACARDÍ Carta Negra is great with tropical fruit like pineapple, passion fruit and mango, as well as a fiery ginger beer. Some of our favourite BACARDÍ Black cocktails include the Jungle Bird and Tiki classics like the Zombie and Hurricane.

What Can I Mix with BACARDÍ Añejo 4?

So many things – cola, ginger ale, pineapple juice and it’s particularly lovely with fresh coconut water. You can also use it to make cocktails like the Rum Punch, Canchánchara, and the El Presidente.

Are BACARDÍ Carta Oro and BACARDÍ Carta Negra Aged Rums?

Yes, all of the rums used in these expressions are aged before being blended to a specific flavour profile. This allows our master blenders the flexibility to use different rum bases as they seek the signature flavour of BACARDÍ Gold and BACARDÍ Black and for that reason, they do not carry a specific age statement.

Was the Original Cuba Libre made with BACARDÍ Rum?

Yes, The Cuba Libre was first made using BACARDÍ Carta Oro. Cuba Libre (free Cuba) was the rallying cry of the independence movement that sought to free the country from centuries of Spanish rule. Created in 1900, this drink is a celebration of that hard-won independence and remains one of the most simple and beloved cocktails in the world.

Why is BACARDÍ Carta Oro Rum and Cola so Good?

This combination works beautifully because they bring out the best in each other. The sweetness of cola compliments the fruit flavours found in a good rum, while both contain notes of vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. As well as being simple to make, there’s also the sense of familiarity that comes from one of the most iconic drinks in the world. While you can’t go wrong with a rum and cola, you can explore other potential flavour combinations here.
